Clown Skateboards: back to finish what they started

Twenty years ago, Jeff Boardman and Vikas Malik came together with a yet to be internationally known artist for a street party. Twenty years later, we couldn’t be happier to be one of ten UK shops to reintroduce you to Clown Skateboards after their hiatus.

Clown came to be in 2000 because of the ‘Rivington Street Exhibition’; a street party which celebrated the work of Banksy for the very first time along with the release of his first little black book and the overtly and publicly political ‘Banging Your Head Against A Brick Wall.’ They continued in then arts by supporting upcoming street artists and taking a firm hand in the music scene through their infamous club nights, pirate radio takeovers and the release of white label records.

It was an alchemic start for a skateboarding company that brought together art, music and skateboarding. They continued with the appointment of Essex Legend Simon Skipp as TM and the acquisition of the talents of Benny Fairfax, Dom Henry, Garry ‘Woody’ Woodward, Mattias Nylen and Chris Oliver. From there, the unskateable cobbles and bricks of London and Essex were skated and days were had in the city.

Operating on such a high frequency meant that in 2005 the brand decided to take pause from creating lightning. Fortunately, they had every view of reigniting their vision in the future and 2020 is the time.

Now, in November 2020 – they are back. Clown have released the ‘CLOWN/BANKSY TEST PRESS’, a series of three designs including the legendary clown ‘LOGO’ and the ‘MONKEY 1 & 2’. 60 sets of their original designs are available to the public for the last time. Soon, this series will be retired in order for the company to reignite their vision of supporting up-and-coming artistic talent; this programme, now overseen by Sunil Pawar, is one we are watching closely unfold for new details with each day.

It’s been fifteen years since we last setup Banksy’s artwork and scraped it over cobbles and curbs without care; we couldn’t be happier to be doing it again.
